Controversial?

The Forgotten Man
ForgottenManThe painting by Jon McNaughton… “Against the background of a darkening sky, all of the past Presidents of the United States gather before the White House, as if to commemorate some great event. In the left hand corner of the painting sits a man. That man, with his head bowed appears distraught and hopeless as he contemplates his future. Some of the past Presidents try to console him while looking in the direction of the modern Presidents as if to say, "What have you done?" Many of these modern Presidents, seemingly oblivious to anything other than themselves, appear to be congratulating each other on their great accomplishments. In front of the man, paper trash is blowing in the wind. Crumpled dollar bills, legislative documents, and, like a whisper—the U.S. Constitution beneath the foot of Barack Obama.” (quoted from comments on YouTube)

Tennessee Granddaddy Says:
I’ve always wondered what would have happened in our country if the South had won the civil war. An interesting question, and it would be the topic of a good novel if it has not already been done. Has it?

Joke of the Day

While driving along the back roads of a small town in Tennessee, two novice truckers came to an overpass with a sign that read CLEARANCE 11'3".

They got out and measured their rig, which was 12'4" high...

"What do you think?" one asked the other.

The driver looked around carefully, then shifted into first. "Not a cop in sight. Let's take a chance!"

(I like the above joke. ~TG)

Harry Turtledove's The Guns of the South, and I believe there are several other novels as well. Also, there are some historians who have written books trying to seriously answer the question.

I wondered, too if the South had won the civil war! Might need to check out that book sometime.

Very good question, Jim. Lincoln said: "This country cannot remain half slave & half free". Before the Civil War started, he believed the nation would either become "all of one or all of the other." Many historians agree that if the South had won the Civil War, there would have been more wars ahead until Lincoln's prophecy was realized, one way or the other.
