Happy Birthday Dad!!!

September 2 is a very special day... It is my Dad's Birthday.
He will be 94 years old this year. He was born on September 2, 1913. See his baby picture at right.

His wife, LaVerne, was a beautiful, loving, and kind person. They were always very much in love. This picture was taken in the Great Smoky Mountains (probably in the early 1950s).

Dad only went through the 8th grade, but that never held him back. He has been successful in all his business ventures. From the days of working as a clerk in a grocery store, he went on to create and manage White Produce Company, White Bros. Poultry & Egg Company, White's Travel Trailer Sales, and White's Security Door Shop.

Dad really likes technology. He piloted his own airplane and was the first person I knew to get a portable phone. Now he likes these cellular phones and computers. Just recently I got me one of those GPS systems for my car. Dad saw it, and I think he bought one for himself the very next week!

Age does not slow down my Dad. He has a tomato garden every year. He keeps the birds fed and watered. He's busy taking pictures of nature and interesting things. He has never quit learning. He has his own web site and web journal. Did you know that he is America's Oldest Blogger? His famous journal is Dad's Tomato Garden Journal where he shares his homespun wit, pictures of birds & plants, and advice on tomato gardening. I just checked his web counter... and he has had 122,989 hits since his first post on August 28, 2003.

My Dad has always had my greatest respect and admiration. He has been a teacher, friend, helper, and role model. But more importantly I want to thank him for teaching me about kindness to others, the love for all of God's creation, and the true purpose of life.

There has never been a Dad like My Dad. He's the Best!
I hope he has a wonderful birthday.

Joke of the Day

The little girl sneaked up behind her dad as he was logging onto the home computer. Suddenly she turned and ran into the kitchen, squealing to the rest of the family, "I know daddy's password! I know daddy's password!" "What is it?" her brother asked eagerly. Proudly she replied, "Asterisk, asterisk, asterisk, asterisk!"
