Wrapping up Another Week

Loads of Corn
As a result of yesterday's joke I got four loads of digital corn delivered to my email inbox. Yes, my friend Walter sent me four loads of corn. This picture shows what it looked like. Yes, that was a corny joke, and the corn I received was well deserved.

Accomplishments and Goals
When I was formally employed at Eastman, we often had to write up our accomplishments. Sometimes for a week, a month, and almost always we would have to describe our accomplishments for the whole year.

Now that I am retired I don't have to write down my accomplishments. But thinking about this made me think about what have I accomplished in the last week, last month, and last year. (Not much, and not enough) Sometimes when a person asks what I've accomplished, I just say, "I survived." I hope I can do more than just survive.

Now might be a good time to be thinking about what we really want to accomplish next year. And when the new year comes around we would be ready with some good resolutions. But more than good New Years Resolutions we need a plan to achieve our goals. I found this link about 7 Steps for Setting Goals. You might want to check that out. You might want to Google "goal setting" and you will get lots of links for advice.

A Poem Named "Time"

Days, hours, minutes --- time.
It flies apace, and oh, how oft
We miss the grace
That day, hour, or minute
Could give to us.
Human as we are we move
With hurried step
From here to there
And there to here,
Fulfilling needs and wants,
And doing --- what we think ---
Must be done.
But, ah, the wise man
With a quiet serenity
Calmly lets the beauty of the moments
Fill him instead.

The above poem by Mary L White, my dear sister.

Quotes of the Day
Of all the things you wear,
your expression is the most important.
~Janet Lane

A truly happy person is one who can
enjoy the scenery while on a detour.

Joke of the Day
Jim had an awful day fishing on the lake, sitting in the blazing sun all day without catching a single one. On his way home, he stopped at the supermarket and ordered four catfish. He told the fish salesman, "Pick four large ones out and throw them at me, will you?"

"Why do you want me to throw them at you?"

"Because I want to tell my wife that I caught them."

"Okay, but I suggest that you take the orange roughy."

"But why?"

"Because your wife came in earlier today and said that if you came by, I should tell you to take orange roughy. She prefers that for supper tonight."

I enjoyed the thoughts you shared about goal setting... guess I had better get busy defining my important goals instead of just rushing in trying to do everything!!
