Quote of the Day
I love being married.
It's so great to find that one special person you
want to annoy for the rest of your life.

Joke of the Day

Although this married couple enjoyed their luxury fishing boat together, it was the husband who was behind the wheel operating the boat.

He was concerned about what might happen in an emergency. So one day out on the lake he said to his wife, "Please take the wheel, dear. Pretend that I am having a heart attack. You must get the boat safely to shore."

So she drove the boat to shore.

Later that evening, the wife walked into the living room where her husband was watching television.

She sat down next to him, switched the TV channel, and said to him, "Please go into the kitchen, dear.
Pretend I'm having a heart attack. You must set the table, cook the dinner, and wash the dishes."

Tennessee Trophy Fish Award

Tennessee Granddaddy Got An Award
On May 7 of this year I caught a nice size crappie. By Tennessee’s Angler Recognition Program it was a trophy fish. I sent in a photo verifying the size of the fish, a completed form and $5.00, and in return TWRA sent me this nice certificate.

My friend and fishing buddy, Ralph, also received an award this year. If fact we have caught 6 fish earlier  this year that would quality for the crappie award.

IMG_3368It would be quite a feat to get a certificate for several fish varieties. I was thinking about an award for some of these large lake trout we had been catching. A week or so ago we caught some that were 25 inches. I checked the minimum length for an award for lake trout, and it was 28”. That’s a lot bigger than we have ever caught. Maybe one day we’ll catch a few that big.

Speaking of Fishing
Doug and I went to Watauga on Monday of this week. We caught some nice trout (7 total) including two six pound lake trout. These miss the Angular Recognition Program by 3 inches, but they were trophies in my book.P1060666

Joke of the Day

An efficiency expert concluded his lecture with a note of caution. "You don't want to try these techniques at home."

"Why not?" asked someone from the back of the audience.

"I watched my wife's routine at breakfast for years," the expert explained. "She made lots of trips to the refrigerator, stove, table and cabinets, often carrying just a single item at a time. 'Hon,' I suggested, 'Why don't you try carrying several things at once?'"

The voice from the back asked, "Did it save time?"

The expert replied, "Actually, yes. It used to take her 20 minutes to get breakfast ready. Now I do it in seven"

Farm Beauty

Just Plain Old Hay
I just love going by a hay field and seeing the bales of hay left by the baler. It’s just plain pretty to me. I took the picture below just a day or so ago. This field is not far from our home. The highway you see in the distance in Interstate 26.P1060660

I think there’s a lot of truth in the quote of the day (below). I also think there’s a lot of medicinal power in being outside and enjoying nature and seeing and smelling those hay fields.

Joke of the Day

A woman goes to the doctor for her yearly physical and the nurse starts with certain basic items.

"How much do you weigh?" she asks.

"115," she says.

The nurse puts her on the scale and it turns out her weight is 140.

The nurse asks, "Your height?"

"5 foot 8," she says.

The nurse checks and tells her that she only measures 5' 5".

The nurse then takes her blood pressure and tells the woman it is very high.

"Of course it's high!" the woman screams,
"When I came in here I was tall and slender! Now I'm short and fat!"

Wedding Anniversary Today

June 8, 1961
That’s when it started. That’s the day we got married. Count them up… this makes our

49tfWedding Anniversary. It hard to believe. We’ve been through a lot: the thick and the thin, the good and the bad, the up and the down… and you know what?

It’s been a wonderful ride. I’m sure glad and thankful Beverly decided to share her life with me.

An anniversary is a time to celebrate the joys of today, the memories of yesterday, and the hopes of tomorrow. And that’s what we’re going to do today.

Joke of the Day

A wife was making a breakfast of fried eggs for her husband.

Suddenly her husband burst into the kitchen and started saying: "Careful .. CAREFUL! Put in some more butter! Oh Good Grief! You're cooking too many at once. TOO MANY! Turn them! TURN THEM NOW! They need more butter. Oh Good Grief ! WHERE are we going to get MORE BUTTER? They're going to STICK! Careful ... CAREFUL! I said BE CAREFUL!! You NEVER listen to me when you're cooking! Never! Turn them! Hurry up! Are you CRAZY? Have you LOST your mind? Don't forget to salt them. You know you always forget to salt them. Use the salt. USE THE SALT! THE SALT!"

The wife stared at him. "What on earth is wrong with you? You think I don't know how to fry a couple of eggs?

The husband calmly replied, " Well...I just wanted to show you what I feel like when I'm driving with you in the car!"

Can You Spel?

A Post-It Note on the Gas PumpP1060657

When I saw this Post-It Note on the gas pump at our local Food City Gas & Go station I had to take a picture. I tried to reconstruct what happened. Maybe it went like this…

The payment machine on the pump ran out of paper. The boss said to put a note on the pump. The employee put a note “Out of Order” on the pump. So then people stopped using the pump for gas. The boss found out and told the employee that he should change the note to say the payment thing on the pump is not giving receipts. So the employee goes back with his pen in hand, but there’s a problem! Duh… how do you spell receipt? Reipes or Rcipes I think. Well, that’s close enough.

Tennessee Granddaddy Says:
Getting help from God to forgive a sin in your life consists of 6 steps.
1) You must have a sin (who doesn’t?)
2) You must have a desire for God to help you
3) You must be willing for God’s help
4) You must have faith the God will forgive & help
5) You show thankfulness to God that you were forgiven
6) You are obedient so you will not need help in this same matter again and again.

Joke of the Day

A preacher's little boy inquired, "Daddy, I notice every Sunday morning when you first come out to preach, you sit up on the platform and bow your head. What are you doing?"

The father explained, "I'm asking the Lord to give me a good sermon."

The little boy said, "Then why doesn't he?"

Backyard Birds

Two New Pictures
All I have today is a couple of pictures of birds I took a few days ago. They seem to love that feeder with those sunflower seeds.

Joke of the Day

A police officer in a small town stopped a motorist who was speeding down Main Street. "But officer," the man began, "I can explain."

"Just be quiet," snapped the officer. "I'm going to let you cool your heels in jail until the chief gets back."

"But, officer, I just wanted to say,..."

"And I said to keep quiet! You're going to jail!"

A few hours later the officer looked in on his prisoner and said, "Lucky for you that the chief's at his daughter's wedding. He'll be in a good mood when he gets back."

"Don't count on it," answered the fellow in the cell. "I'm the groom."

If An Ill Wind Blows…

Something to Remember When Your Hut Is On Fire
I received this the other day from a good friend. If you’ve seen it, forgive me. It has a good moral:

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island.  He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him. Every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming.

HutExhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect himself from the elements, and to store his few possessions. One day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, with smoke rolling up to the sky. He felt the worst had happened, and everything was lost. He was stunned with disbelief, grief, and anger. He cried out, 'God! How could you do this to me?'

Early the next day, he was awakened by the sound of a ship approaching the island! It had come to rescue him! 'How did you know I was here?' asked the weary man of his rescuers. 'We saw your smoke signal,' they replied.

The Moral of This Story: It's easy to get discouraged when things are going bad, but we shouldn't lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of our pain and suffering. Remember that the next time your little hut seems to be burning to the ground. It just may be a smoke signal that summons the Grace of God.

Joke of the Day

Deep within a forest a little turtle began to climb a tree. After hours of effort he reached the top, jumped into the air waving his front legs and crashed to the ground. After recovering, he slowly climbed the tree again, jumped, and fell to the ground.

The turtle tried again and again while a couple of birds sitting on a branch watched his sad efforts. Finally, the female bird turned to her mate.

"Dear," she chirped, "I think it's time to tell him he's adopted."
