Friendships and Neighbors

Animal Friends
Here's a 19 picture slide show I put together based on an email I received from my friend Bill S in California. I think you will enjoy these pictures of animal friendships.

I Need Advice
I have a problem. I had a little accident involving a neighbor's trailer. It was nothing serious, but I would like your advice.

Joke of the Day

A man was getting a haircut prior to a trip to Rome. He mentioned the trip to the barber who responded, "Rome? Why would anyone want to go there? It's crowded & dirty and full of Italians. You're crazy to go to Rome. So, how are you getting there?"

"We're taking TWA," was the reply. "We got a great rate!"

"TWA?" exclaimed the barber. "That's a terrible airline. Their planes are old, their flight attendants are ugly, and they're always late. So, where are you staying in Rome?"

"We'll be at the downtown International Marriott."

"That dump! That's the worst hotel in the city. The rooms are small, the service is surly and they're overpriced. So, whatcha doing when you get there?"

"We're going to go to see the Vatican and we hope to see the Pope."

"That's rich," laughed the barber. "You and a million other people trying to see him. He'll look the size of an ant. Boy, good luck on this lousy trip of yours. You're going to need it."

A month later, the man again came in for his regular haircut. The barber asked him about his trip to Rome.

"It was wonderful," explained the man, "not only were we on time in one of TWA's brand new planes, but it was overbooked and they bumped us up to first class. The food and wine were wonderful, and I had a beautiful 28 year old stewardess who waited on me hand and foot.

"And the hotel-it was great! They'd just finished a $25 million remodeling job and now it's the finest hotel in the city. They, too, were overbooked, so they apologized and gave us the presidential suite at no extra charge!"

"Well," muttered the barber, "I know you didn't get to see the pope."

"Actually, we were quite lucky, for as we toured the Vatican, a Swiss Guard tapped me on the shoulder and explained that the pope likes to personally meet some of the visitors, and if I'd be so kind as to step into his private room and wait the pope would personally greet me. Sure enough, five minutes later the pope walked through the door and shook my hand! I knelt down as he spoke a few words to me."

"Really?" asked the Barber. "What'd he say?"

He said, "Where'd you get the lousy haircut?

Good Times

Last Night
We had a wonderful time last night. Dora, one of our friends who worked at Eastman's Mexico Plant, was visiting Kingsport. All of us who had lived in Mexico and worked at the plant with Dora, got together for a wonderful dinner at Giusseppe's Italian Restaurant. The top picture shows the whole group. Starting on the left and going around are Brenda, Wendell, Pedro, Cathy, Dora, Bruce, Cynthia, Mary, Jim J., Beverly, and myself.

The second picture shows Beverly and I on each side of Dora. We had a great time. Old stories about our days in Mexico were retold and enjoyed. Good memories of days gone by.

Note: Left click once on the pictures for a larger image.

My "YouTube" Flag
Last Saturday I was at the Post Office, and noticed the flag flying in the breeze. It was beautiful. I took a short movie and later added the music to the Star Spangled Banner to the video clip. The music is from the US Marine Band. I posted it on YouTube...

When you have time, check out the
Support Our Troops web page that has many interesting links and information about our flag.

Joke of the Day

An elderly woman decided to prepare her will and told her preacher she had two final requests. First, she wanted to be cremated, and second, she wanted her ashes scattered over Wal-Mart.

"Wal-Mart?" the preacher exclaimed. "Why Wal-Mart?" She explained, "Then I'll be sure my children and friends visit me twice a week."

Alphabet of Friendship

A friend sent this list to me a while back. It's good and I wanted to share with you. Perhaps you could read the list twice. First, thinking about your friends that do that for you. Then, read it a second time thinking about how you could do that for your friends.

A Friend does most or all of these...

(A)ccepts you as you are
(B)elieves in "you"
(C)alls you just to say "HI"
(D)oesn't give up on you

(E)nvisions the whole of you (even the unfinished parts)
(F)orgives your mistakes
(G)ives unconditionally
(H)elps you
(I)nvites you over

(J)ust "be" with you
(K)eeps you close at heart
(L)oves you for who you are
(M)akes a difference in your life

(N)ever Judges
(O)ffer support
(P)icks you up
(Q)uiets your fears
(R)aises your spirits

(S)ays nice things about you
(T)ells you the truth when you need to hear it
(U)nderstands you
(V)alues you

(W)alks beside you
(X)-plains thing you don't understand
(Y)ells when you won't listen and
(Z)aps you back to reality

Remember that Jesus is the best friend of all.

We went to Knoxville yesterday for the "Special Meetings". We heard many good and profitable things. It was a very good day. We used our SUV to full advantage with all eight seats occupied.

Joke of the Day

A little girl asked her mother, "How did the human race appear?"

The mother answered, "God made Adam and Eve and they had children and so Mankind was made."

Two days later the girl asked her father the same question. The father answered, "Many years ago there were monkeys from which the human race evolved."

The confused girl returned to her mother and said, "Mom, how is it possible that you told me the human Race was created by God, and Dad said they developed from monkeys?"

The mother answered, "Well, dear, it is very simple. I told you about my side of the family and your father told you about his."

Some In-Laws and some Laws

In-Laws Last Night
We had a great time last evening. Roy and Mavis were with us and we went to see their grand- daughter, Jennifer, in a play at ETSU. Jennifer had the leading role, and is a very talented actress and singer. Roy is my Dad's brother. This picture shows Beverly, Jade, Mavis and Roy at dinner at Johnny Carino's in Johnson City yesterday. We enjoyed out time together very much! Click this for info about the play

The Laws of Living
I don't remember where these "laws" came from, but they are so true. You'll enjoy!

Law of Mechanical Repair

After your hands become coated with grease, your nose will begin to itch or you'll have to go to the bathroom.

Law of the Workshop
Any tool, when dropped, will roll to the least accessible corner.

Law of Probability
The probability of being watched is directly proportional to the stupidity of your act.

Law of the Telephone
If you dial a wrong number, you never get a busy signal.

Law of the Alibi
If you tell the boss you were late for work because you had a flat tire, the very next morning you will have a flat tire.

Variation Law
If you change lines (or traffic lanes), the one you were in will start to move faster than the one you are in now (works every time).

Law of the Bath
When the body is fully immersed in water, the telephone rings.

Law of Close Encounters
The probability of meeting someone you know increases dramatically when you are with someone you don't want to be seen with.

Law of the Result
When you try to prove to someone that a machine won't work, it will.

Law of Bio mechanics
The severity of the itch is inversely proportional to the reach.

Law of the Theater
At any event, the people whose seats are furthest from the aisle arrive last.

Law of Coffee
As soon as you sit down to a cup of hot coffee, your boss will ask you to do something which will last until the coffee is cold.

Murphy's Law of Lockers
If there are only two people in a locker room, they will have adjacent lockers.

Law of Rugs/Carpets
The chances of an open-faced jelly sandwich landing face down on a floor covering are directly correlated to the newness and cost of the carpet/rug.

Law of Logical Argument
Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about.

Brown's Law
If the shoe fits, it's ugly.

Oliver's Law
A closed mouth gathers no feet.

Wilson's Law
As soon as you find a product that you really like, they will stop making it. (this one is true every time)!

Doctors' Law
If you don't feel well, make an appointment to go to the doctor, by the time you get there you'll feel better. Don't make an appointment and you'll stay sick

Joke of the Day

A man in his 40's bought a new BMW and was out on the interstate for a nice evening drive. The top was down, the breeze was blowing through what was left of his hair and he decided to open her up.

As the needle jumped up to 80 mph, he suddenly saw flashing red and blue lights behind him. "There's no way they can catch a BMW," he thought to himself and opened her up further. The needle hit 90, 100.... Then the reality of the situation hit him. "What in the world am I doing?" he thought and pulled over.

The cop came up to him, took his license without a word and examined it and the car. "It's been a long day, this is the end of my shift and it's Friday the 13th. I don't feel like more paperwork, so if you can give me an excuse for your driving that I haven't heard before, you can go."

The guy thinks for a second and says, "Last week my wife ran off with a cop. I was afraid you were trying to give her back."

"Have a nice weekend," said the officer.

Funny Friday

Water Bed Practical Joke
While the narration is not in English, you will still understand it and laugh a little. I think it's from a TV Show that did practical jokes. Enjoy!

Corny!
Joe: Last night the lion-tamer at the circus was attacked by his lions.
Sam: Was he clawed?
Joe: I don't know what is name was.

Every Wonder...
  • Why is the third hand on the watch called the second hand?
  • If a word is misspelled in the dictionary, how would we ever know?
  • If Webster wrote the first dictionary, where did he find the words?
  • Why do we say something is out of whack? What is a whack?
  • Why does "slow down" and "slow up" mean the same thing?
  • Why does "fat chance" and "slim chance" mean the same thing?
  • Why do "tug" boats push their barges?
  • Why do we sing "Take me out to the ball game" when we are already there?
  • Why are they called "stands" when they are made for sitting?
  • Why is it called "after dark" when it really is "after light"?
  • Doesn't "expecting the unexpected" make the unexpected expected?
  • Why are a "wise man" and a "wise guy" opposites?
  • Why do "overlook" and "oversee" mean opposite things?
  • Why is "phonics" not spelled the way it sounds?
  • Why do we put suits in garment bags and garments in a suitcase?
  • How come abbreviated is such a long word?
  • Why do we drive on a parkway and park in a driveway??
  • What do you call Sour Cream, when it goes to the bad?
  • Why are there only eight hot dog buns in a pack, when there are 12 hot dogs in a bag?

Joke of the Day

An engineer, a physicist, and a lawyer were being interviewed for a position as chief executive officer of a large corporation. The engineer was interviewed first, and was asked a long list of questions, ending with "How much is two plus two?" The engineer excused himself, and made a series of measurements and calculations before returning to the board room and announcing, "Four."

The physicist was next interviewed, and was asked the same questions. Again, the last question was, "How much is two plus two?" Before answering the last question, he excused himself, made for the library, and did a great deal of research. After a consultation with the United States Bureau of Standards and many calculations, he also announced, "Four."

The lawyer was interviewed last, and again the final question was, "How much is two plus two?" The lawyer drew all the shades in the room, looked outside to see if anyone was there, checked the telephone for listening devices, and then whispered, "How much do you want it to be?"

(The Lawyer got the job.)

Know What's Happening?

Happy Birthday Lesley White!
My Daughter-In-Law, Lesley, has a birthday today. I want to wish her a special birthday and I hope she has a wonderful day. She is a loving and caring mother. We love her very much.

Went Fishing Yesterday
We had a good day on Douglas Lake. The water temperature was in the low 60s and that helped the bite, i think. We didn't have a fantastic day, but a good day with some nice fish to show for our effort.

Test Your Awareness

Watch this short YouTube video to test your awareness of what is happening. It is so easy to miss something when we're are concentrating on something unrelated. This is interesting.

Joke of the Day

A young lawyer, starting up his private practice, was very anxious to impress potential clients.

When he saw the first visitor to his office come through the door, he immediately picked up his phone and spoke into it," I'm sorry, but my caseload is so tremendous that I'm not going to be able to look into your problem for at least a month. I'll have to get back to you then."

He then turned to the man who had just walked in, and said, "Now, what can I do for you?"

"Nothing," replied the man. "I'm here to hook up your phone."
