Another Swimming "Pool"

Victoria Falls
The Devil's Swimming Pool is in Zimbabwe, Africa. This pool is at the top of Victoria Falls which is 128 meters high. At certain months of the year, people can actually swim close to the edge of the falls without be swept over. This is true! I checked it on Snopes.com, and you can too.

Look at these pictures, and then tell me...

Would you dare?

Joke of the Day
A new porter at a Paris hotel was instructed by the manager that it was important to call the guests by their names in order to make them feel welcome, and that the easiest way to find out their name was to look at their luggage.

Armed with this advice, the porter took two guests up to their rooms, put down their bags and said, "I hope you 'ave a very 'appy stay 'ere in Paris, Mr and Mrs Genuine Cow'ide."

(Comment by Tennessee Granddaddy - The above joke reminded me of a time when I was working for Tennessee Eastman Company. They furnished us with briefcases that had the initials "TEC" engraved in gold. When going through airport security at our Tri-Cities Regional Airport, the man asked me for my name. I asked him why he wanted to know. He said he saw so many people go through the airport with the initials of TEC and he was curious about my name. I could of told him my name was Theodore Edward Collins, Ha!)

Joke of the Day
Reaching the end of a job interview, the Human Resources Person asked the young Engineer fresh out of MIT, "And what starting salary were you looking for?"

The Engineer said, "In the neighborhood of $125,000 a year, depending on the benefits package."

The HR Person said, "Well, what would you say to a package of 5-weeks vacation, 14 paid holidays, full medical and dental, company matching retirement fund to 50% of salary, and a company car leased every 2 years - say, a red Corvette?"

The Engineer sat up straight and said, "Wow!!! Are you kidding?"

And the HR Person replied, "Yeah, but you started it."

Swimming

Largest Swimming Pool
I thought this swimming pool in Chile was interesting. It is more than 1,000 yards long, covers 20 acres, has a 115 ft deep end and holds 66 million gallons of water. Guinness Book of Records have said it is the biggest in the world. Just look at it as it stretches along the beach.

It took 5 years to build. It is actually a man-made saltwater lagoon. It has been attracting huge crowds to the San Alfonso del Mar resort at Algarrobo, on Chile 's southern coast. Its turquoise waters are so crystal clear that you can see the bottom even in the deep end.

Chile 's monster pool uses a computer- controlled suction and filtration system to keep fresh seawater in permanent circulation, drawing it in from the ocean at one end and pumping it out at the other.
The sun warms the water to 26c, nine degrees warmer than the adjoining sea.

Swimming Lessons
Yesterday swimming lessons started for our grandchildren, Kara and Zachary. Beverly and I will be taking them to lessons for the next two weeks, a total of 10 lessons. We do this because it is so important to learn to swim. Our children all learned to swim, and when Mandy would visit us in the summer, we took her to swimming lessons.

Joke of the Day
Arthur is 90 years old. He's played golf every day since his retirement 25 years ago. One day he arrives home looking downcast. "That's it," he tells his wife. "I'm giving up golf. My eyesight has gotten so bad that once I hit the ball I couldn't see where it went."

His wife sympathizes and makes him a cup of tea. As they sit down she says, "Why don't you take my brother with you and give it one more try."

"That's no good" sighs Arthur, "your brother's a hundred and three. He can't help."

"He may be a hundred and three", says the wife, "but his eyesight is perfect."

So the next day Arthur heads off to the golf course with his brother-in-law. He tees up, takes an almighty swing and squints down the fairway. He turns to the brother-in-law. "Did you see the ball?"

"Of course I did!" replied the brother-in-law. "I have perfect eyesight".

"Where did it go?" says Arthur.

"I don't remember."

Knoxville Visit

Knoxville Yesterday
We had a wonderful visit yesterday to see my Dad and Sister. We went to our Sunday morning meeting, and afterward enjoyed a wonderful potluck dinner. Wee got to see many friends and my Uncle Roy, my Aunt Mavis, and my Aunt Helen (Roy and Helen are Dad's brother and sister, Mavis is Roy's wife. Mavis is a native of Australia). I have wonderful relatives!!!

Back at Dad's place we got to see the tomato garden and it does look good! Every thing is looking very pretty. He has a lot of bird feeders and many birds.

Beverly took this picture of Dad and me while we were down at the garden.

We had a great time!

Jokes of the Day
Three engineers and three accountants are traveling by train to a conference. At the station, the three accountants each buy tickets and watch as the three engineers buy only a single ticket.

"How are three people going to travel on only one ticket?" asks an accountant.
"Watch and you'll see," answers an engineer.

They all board the train. The accountants take their respective seats but all three engineers cram into a restroom and close the door behind them. Shortly after the train has departed, the conductor comes around collecting tickets. He knocks on the restroom door and says, "Ticket, please."

The door opens just a crack and a single arm emerges with a ticket in hand. The conductor takes it and moves on.

The accountants saw this and agreed it was quite a clever idea. So after the conference, the accountants decide to copy the engineers on the return trip and save some money (being clever with money, and all that).

When they get to the station, they buy a single ticket for the return trip.
To their astonishment, the engineers don't buy a ticket at all.

"How are you going to travel without a ticket?" says one perplexed accountant.

"Watch and you'll see," answers an engineer.

When they board the train the three accountants cram into a restroom and the three engineers cram into another one nearby. The train departs. Shortly afterward, one of the engineers leaves his restroom and walks over to the restroom where the accountants are hiding. He knocks on the door and says, Ticket, please."

Prison and Work

Fishing Yesterday
We had a long day on the lake yesterday. We got on the water at Douglas at 9 AM and and we put the boat back on the trailer at around 8:30 PM. That's almost 12 hours. It was a hard day of fishing. The wind was terrible and there was a lot of leaves and vegetation in the water. We spent a lot of effort trying to control the boat, and a lot of time cranking in and cleaning the vegetation off the lures.

Did we catch fish? A few, and certainly nothing to brag about considering the time on the water. We caught 15 crappie (12 keepers), 3 striped bass, 2 drum, and one small sauger pike. We brought home the 12 nice crappie (see picture).

A Comparison of Prison to Work

I saw this a while back, and thought I would share with you today. It's kind of funny, but I can honestly say that I enjoyed my years of working for Eastman Chemical Company.

In prison you spend the majority of your time in an
8' x 10' cell.
At work you spend most of your time in a 6' x 8' cubicle.

In prison you get three meals a day.
At work you only get a break for one meal and you have to pay for it.

In prison you get time off for good behavior.
At work you get rewarded for good behavior with more work.

In prison a guard locks and unlocks all the doors for you.
At work you must carry around a security card and unlock and open all the doors yourself.

In prison you can watch TV and play games.
At work you get fired for watching TV and playing games.

In prison they allow your family and friends to visit.
At work you cannot even speak to your family and friends.

In prison all expenses are paid by taxpayers with no work required.
At work you get to pay all the expenses to go to work and then they deduct taxes from your salary to pay for prisoners.

In prison you spend most of your life looking through the bars from the inside wanting to get out.
At work you spend your time wanting to get out and inside bars.

In prison you can join many programs which you can leave at any time.
At work there are some programs you can never get out of.

In prison there are wardens who are often sadistic.
At work we have managers.

Amazing Model B29

Something New!
Please look in the right hand column just under the web counter.

I've changed the diet scoreboard to a new link! I have added a good friend to the scoreboard. She is just starting her weight loss campaign. If you have an interest in me adding you to the scoreboard, let me know and we can discuss.

Model Airplanes

Model airplanes have always been very interesting to me. I used to watch people fly those airplanes where you held the guidelines and the plane would fly around you in circles. That was before the day of radio controlled airplanes. It is amazing what they can do now.

My friend Bill S. in California sent me this link to a video showing a radio controlled flight of large model of a B-29. This is a four engine plane that uses 4 chainsaw engines for power. As Bill, said, "Just imagine how much time, effort, skill and
money these guys have put into this model aircraft." Watch it here...

Gone Fishing, Maybe
I just might be on the lake today. I'll put the sign out anyway. Might catch a few, and if not, that is not so bad. What better way to spend a day as on the water, in the sun, and enjoying nature all around. I hope you have a great day, too!

Jokes of the Day
A lovely afternoon finds a man and his wife golfing. They have had a wonderful time and the man has had a near perfect game. The final hole, by far the most difficult, wraps around an old barn. With a terrible slice the man puts the barn between his ball and the green. Knowing that the strokes that it will take to get around the barn will destroy his score, he begins to rant and rave.

His wife hating to see him ruin such a great afternoon makes a suggestion.
"What if I were to hold open the barn doors? That way you could send it right through the barn onto the green."

He thinks this over and decides that it will work. With his wife holding open the barn door he lines up with the hole and gives the ball a terrific "whack"! The ball shoots through the air and right into the head of his wife, killing her instantly.

Months go by, the man mourning all the while. His friends, hating to see him in such a state, convince him to go golfing with them.

They end up at the same course and on the final hole, oddly enough, another terrible slice puts the old barn between his ball and the green. Again he begins to rant and rave at what this dilemma will do to his score.

He friend, wanting to please him, makes a suggestion. "What if I were to hold open the barn doors? That way you could send it right through the barn onto the green."

"No," the man replies, "last time I did that I got two over par."

Are You Aware?

Of Changes in the World Today?
When I saw the following I thought the information was staggering. Everyone should watch these videos to learn about the world we live in today. You may want to watch one or both of these videos. I hope you do.

The following YouTube videos tell a story... A story you may not have heard. It is a story of changes in our world. Not just changes but a massive shift in things that will impact every human being on the planet. It is a story of exponential change. This first video is
a popular presentation by Carl Fisch redone as a video story by Michael Arnold.

This second YouTube video is
an official update to the original "Shift Happens" video from Karl Fisch and Scott McLeod, this June 2007 update includes new and updated statistics, thought-provoking questions and a fresh design.

Joke of the Day
Reverend Ole was the pastor of the local Norwegian Lutheran Church, and Pastor Sven was the minister of the Swedish Covenant Church across the road. Yesterday they were standing by the road, pounding a sign into the ground. The sign read, "Da End iss Near! Turn Yourself Aroundt Now! Before It iss Too Ladte!"

As a car sped past them, the driver leaned out his window and yelled, "Leave us alone, you religious nuts!"

From the curve we heard screeching tires and a big splash...

Rev. Ole turns to Pastor Sven and asks, "Do ya tink maybe da sign should yust say 'Bridge Out'?"
