Happy New Year

From the Hospital
All going good. Hip replacement went without problems. They had me up a couple of times. I had a Subway sub for supper last night.

Here's a picture taken a little while ago.

A Birthday Celebration

Kara’s 15th Birthday
This afternoon we celebrated my granddaughter’s 15th birthday. Actually her birthday is tomorrow, December 31. We celebrated today. Here’ a little video I put together for the event. Be sure to notice what she is holding in her hands at the end of the video.

Hip Replacement
If you’re reading this on Monday, I am probably at the hospital with my hip replacement surgery. I am supposed to be at the hospital at 6:00 AM on 12/31/2012. Don’t look for me at any New Years Eve parties. Ha!

Figure It Out?

In Kingsport
Here’s a picture taken in Kingsport, Tennessee. It shows a popular and excellent BBQ business, Broad Street Barbeque.

IMG_2493

What’s interesting is that Broad Street Barbeque is located at the corner of Memorial Blvd. and Center Street!

How does this happen? The best explanation I have is that this restaurant was previously located on Broad Street. They had a good reputation. So, I’m guessing, they wanted to keep their name even though they were moving to a different location.

Merry Christmas

z62467943-1

It’s Christmas Eve
It’s that time of the year again.. yes, that wonderful season that we enjoy so much.

Beverly and I will be alone on Christmas Eve and enjoy the time together quietly. Later we’ll call family and wish them well as we wish they could be with us as we set by the fire this evening. Tomorrow we look forward to having Kevin and his family join us for supper and opening a few presents for the Kara and Zachary.

Wal-Martchristmas_snowman_9
Beverly and I just returned from a short shopping trip at Wal-Mart. It was so interesting to watch people buying last minute gifts. I saw a man going down the sports aisle with question marks all over his face, and there was a little boy scratching his head and swaying side to side looking at some perfume.

We’re in for the night and I am glad for that.

News
It looks like Dad’s house in Knoxville is sold. We have a buyer and the closing date has been set for late January 2013.

I’m having hip replacement surgery next week on December 31. Yes. That’s New Year’s Eve! No wild parties for me this year! Ha! (I’ll be glad to get this done. I’ve been in much pain the last month or two.)

Looking Ahead
As we go into the new year, I have plans to continue this blog on a more routine basis. So I hope you will not forget about Tennessee Granddaddy and check in from time to time.

Best Wishes to everyone for a Merry Christmas and a very happy and prosperous New Year!

Election is Over, Thanksgiving is Nearing

The Election
While the election did not go to suit me I am hoping for the best these next four years. What I want is for our country to be strong and provide an example of freedom for the world. I also want capitalism to flourish as we have growth all across the land with high employment for willing workers. I hope we work to reduce the national debt while having fair taxation for all citizens. I also want our borders to become secure and remain free from threats of terrorism. Lastly I hope the government encourages individual incentives and not let us become a socialist nation. Am I asking too much? I hope not.

Thanksgiving
tg turkeyTurkey Day is fast approaching. Grandmother and I have already been making preparations (Especially Grandmother). We be buying the turkey next week and it will be a big fellow. All the gang is planning to be here. It will be a fun time.

But it will also have a sad side, since we will not have Dad with us this year. He always enjoyed being here for Thanksgiving and getting some pictures he could put in his blog.

But we’ll have a new attendee this year, and that will be Atley James Rogers, the new son of Mandy and Alex.

Update on Dad’s House
IMG_2487I am in the final stages of settling Dad’s estate as the Executor. Also we have had an estate sale and the house has been readied for sale. It is now on the market. It very sad to go through this process. Sometimes I felt like I was destroying the things he loved. It had to be done. While many of the physical things have been moved, no one can destroy the memories of Dad and all the things he enjoyed in this life.

Quote of the Day
May your thoughts be as glad as the shamrocks
May your heart be as light as a song
May each day bring you bright
Happy hours that stay with you all the year long.

Joke of the Day

At a small zoo, visitors often ignored the many large signs that said, "Don't feed the animals!"

The zookeeper did not want to impose fines so he tried a different approach.

He posted signs saying, "Feed the animals for only twenty dollars!" and suddenly no one wanted to.

=============

There were once two brothers called William and Wayne. Will was 12 years old and his little brother was 3.

The neighbors noticed they always went around together. If William went down to the ballpark, his little brother would toddle along behind him. And when Wayne went to playgroup, his older brother would come and sit there with all the toddlers.

One neighbor thought this was really strange, so one day he leaned over the fence and asked the boys' mother why they were so inseparable, even though they had nothing in common.

"Well," the mother replied, "Didn't you know? Where there's a Will there's a Wayne."

Something Right from the Left Coast

Video Produced in San Diego by local Students
Can you believe it? This came from California. It’s a 3 minute professional quality video. I just had to share this. I hope you enjoy it.

Tennessee Granddaddy Says:
We had a wonderful church convention last week in Knoxville. We missed Dad being there with us. He’s always been an encouragement to us. And still encourages us as we think about his love, kindness, and patience.

Quotes of the Day
Man’s way leads to a hopeless end…
God’s way leads to an endless hope.

Joke of the Day

A minister was asked to dinner by one of his parishioners. The churchgoer was known for being a terrible housekeeper.

When the minister sat down at the table, he noticed the dishes were the dirtiest he had ever seen in his life.

"Have these dishes ever been washed?" he asked the hostess, running his fingers over the filthy dishes.

She replied, "They're as clean as soap and water could get them."

He felt a bit apprehensive but said grace and started eating. It was quite delicious, despite the dirty dishes.

When dinner was over, the hostess took the dishes outside, whistled and yelled, "Here, Soap! Here, Water!"
