Have You Hear About Boatlift on 9/11?

Resilience on 9/11 – An Untold Story
The story told in this video in narrated by Tom Hanks. It tells about the boatlift that evacuated a half million people from lower Manhattan. Boatlift wasn’t planned, it happened because heroic people acted in a time of need.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend. Enjoy the sunshine. The days are getting shorter. Fall is here, and old man winter won’t be far behind.

Living Bridges

In India
You will be amazed by the following video that shows living bridges made from roots of a living fig trees. It takes years and years to grow the bridges… so long that the man who starts the bridge will not live to see it finished.

Tennessee Granddaddy Says:
What amazes me about the video is the advance planning for the future that those people did.
And I look today at our government which seems so short sighted.

Joke of the Day

The Pope and Obama were on the same stage in Yankee Stadium in front of a huge crowd.

The Pope leaned toward Mr. Obama and said, "Do you know that with one little wave of my hand I can make every person in this crowd go wild with joy? This joy will not be a momentary display, but will go deep into their hearts and they'll forever speak of this day and rejoice!"

Obama replied, "I seriously doubt that! With one little wave of your hand....Show me!"

So the Pope backhanded him and knocked him off the stage!

(It’s just a joke!)

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

And My Dad
Dad had a sore on his toe that will not heal. The circulation is not very good in that leg. I was worried about it because I thought they had exhausted all possible treatments. Then I learned something new…

The treatment Dad is undergoing now is called Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. He has a two hour treatment 5-6 days per week at the mobile unit which is at the St. Mary’s Medical Center in Knoxville, TN.

IMG_20110920_121644In this treatment, Dad enters a chamber with 8-10 other patients. Each patient is fitted with a special air tight hood in which they breathe pure oxygen. Also the atmospheric pressure in the airtight chamber is increased about 3-fold from normal.

It normally takes 4-7 weeks of these treatments for healing to occur. The healing rate is 85-95%.

I can tell a big difference in my Dad’s wound after only 2 weeks.

Read more about Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment here:

Mainer: "Yep, I got one of them trucks too."

Joke of the Day

It was the first day of school after summer vacation. The kids had all arrived in the high school sophomore English class, and were chatting away, making new friends.

THEN…In walked a very stern looking English teacher and a hush fell over the room as the kids scurried to their seats. The stern teacher silently panned his gaze across all the kids. After about a minute or so, he spoke...

"From the outset, I want you all to know that there are two words that are absolutely unacceptable in this classroom. You cannot use them as you recite, or in any of your papers, tests, or homework. Using these words even once, will get you a failing grade for that quarter.

The first one is "gross"
And the other one is "cool"
Are there any questions?"

After a few moments of silence, this gawky teen at the back of the room raises his hand, and the teacher calls upon him.

In a pubescent croaking voice, the kid asks... "So, tell us what are they??"

KISS the Patriots!

I’m Now A Fan of KISS
I’ve never been a fan of the band KISS. But now I like them because they are patriots. I received the following, and it convinced me…

Don't pass this one up! Kiss' Military Salute. Some people may think that Gene Simmons & the band "KISS" were strange people, but I think Gene got it right this time!

God Bless America

The Song, by Irving Berlin
I received this information a few days ago and wanted to share Kate Smith singing “God Bless America.” But first, what was shared to me about the song…

The link below will take you to a video showing the very first public singing of “GOD BLESS AMERICA.”But before you watch, you should also know the story of the song. The time was 1940. America was still in a terrible economic depression. Hitler was taking over Europe and Americans were afraid we’d have to go to war. It was a time of hardship and worry for most Americans.

This was the era just before TV, when radio shows were HUGE, and American families sat around their radios in the evenings, listening to their favorite entertainers – and no entertainer of that era was bigger than Kate Smith. Kate was also large in size, and the popular phrase still used today is in deference to her, “It ain’t over till the fat lady sings.” Kate Smith might not have made it big in the age of TV, but with her voice coming over the radio, she was the biggest star of her time.

Kate was also very patriotic. It hurt her to see Americans so depressed and afraid of what the next day would bring. She had hope for America , and faith in her fellow Americans. She wanted to do something to cheer them up, so she went to the famous American song-writer, Irving Berlin (also wrote “White Christmas”) and asked him to write a song that would make Americans feel good again about their country. When she described what she was looking for, he said he had just the song for her. He went to his files and found a song that he had written, but never published, 22 years before - way back in 1917. He gave it to Kate Smith and she worked on it with her studio orchestra. She and Irving Berlin were not sure how the song would be received by the public, but both agreed they would not take any profits from “God Bless America ”– any profits would go to the Boy Scouts of America. Over the years, the Boy Scouts have received millions of dollars in royalties from this song.

This video starts out with Kate Smith coming into the radio studio with the orchestra and an audience. She introduces the new song for the very first time, and starts singing. After the first couple verses, with her voice in the background still singing, scenes are shown from the 1940 movie, “You’re In The Army Now.” At the 4:20 mark of the video you see a young actor in the movie, sitting in an office, reading a paper – it’s Ronald Reagan. Frank Sinatra considered Kate Smith the best singer of her time, and said when he and a million other guys first heard her sing “God Bless America ”on the radio, they all pretended to have “dust in their eyes” as they wiped away a tear or two…

To this day, “God Bless America” stirs our patriotic feelings and pride in our country. Back in 1940, When Kate Smith went looking for a song to raise the spirits of her fellow Americans, I doubt she realized just how successful the results would be – for her fellow Americans during those years of hardship and worry, and for many generations of Americans to follow… Now that you know the story of the song, I hope you will enjoy it and treasure it even more. God Bless America !

The English Language…

There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple or pine in pineapple. And while no one knows what is in a hotdog, you can be pretty sure it isn't canine.

English muffins were not invented in England nor French fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies, while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat.

We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square, and guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

And why is it that writers write, but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce, and hammers don't ham?

If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth, beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, two meese? Is cheese the plural of choose? One mouse, 2 mice. One louse, 2 lice. One house, 2 hice?

If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat?

Why do people recite at a play, and play at a recital? Ship by truck or car and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell? Park on driveways and drive on parkways?

How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? How can the weather be hot as heck one day and cold as heck another?

When a house burns up, it burns down. You fill in a form by filling it out and an alarm clock goes off by going on. You get in and out of a car, yet you get on and off a bus. When the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible.

And why, when I wind up my watch, I start it, but when I wind up this essay, I end it? English is a silly language ... it doesn't know if it is coming or going!!!

The Recession Is So Bad That...

  • I got a pre-declined credit card in the mail.
  • CEOs are now playing miniature golf.
  • Exxon-Mobil laid off 25 Congressmen.
  • I saw a Mormon polygamist with only one wife.
  • If the bank returns your check marked "Insufficient Funds," you call them and ask if they meant you or them.
  • McDonald's is selling the 1/4 ouncer. .
  • Parents in Beverly Hills fired their nannies and learned their children's names.
  • A truckload of Americans was caught sneaking into Mexico.
  • A picture is now only worth 200 words.
  • Congress says they are looking into this Bernard Madoff scandal. Oh great! The guy who made $50 billion disappear is being investigated by the people who made $1.5 trillion disappear!

And, finally... I was so depressed last night thinking about the economy, wars, jobs, my savings, Social Security, retirement funds, etc., I called the Suicide Hotline. I got a call center in Pakistan, and when I told them I was suicidal, they got all excited, and asked if I could drive a truck.

News About Global Warming

Not Reported By the Mainstream
A Nobel Prize winning physicist resigned from the American Physical Society because the official position of the society is that global warming is man made. Some people know the truth, and act on it. It’s a dirty shame many people have been hoodwinked to believe that global warming is caused by man. You can read the article here:

A friend of mine in a respected position with the news media recently told me, “I've no doubt this hoax will be demonstrated fully in time and that Al Gore will be shown to be either insane, or a scam artist, or both.”

The hoax he’s referring to is man made global warming.

Joke of the Day

A guy was on trial for murder and if convicted, would get the electric chair. His brother found out that a red neck was on the jury and figured he would be the one to bribe. He told the red neck that he would be paid $10,000 if he could convince the rest of the jury to reduce the charge to manslaughter. The jury was out an entire week and returned with a verdict of manslaughter.

After the trial, the brother went to the red neck's house, told him what a great job he had done and paid him the $10,000.

The red neck replied that it wasn't easy to convince the rest of the jury to change the charge to manslaughter. They all wanted to let him go.

Fishing Report

From South Holston Lake
P1060785We had a great day fishing for those Lake Trout yesterday. We just about had the lake to ourselves. It was a beautiful day until the rain started around 1:30 PM, but by then we had the boat on the trailer and we ready to head back home.

There were 3 of us and we go our limit of 6 fish. The largest was about 6 1/2 pounds, and the stringer of lake trout weighed about 29 pounds. All were over 5 pounds except for a three pounder. That’s my friend Darnell holding the stringer.

Joke of the Day

My grandson was visiting one day when he asked, "Grandma, do you know how you and God are alike?"

I mentally polished my halo, while I asked, "No, how are we alike?"

"You're both old," he replied.

The preacher was wired for sound with a lapel mike, and as he preached, he moved briskly about the platform, jerking the mike cord as he went. Then he moved to one side, getting wound up in the cord and nearly tripping before jerking it again.

After several circles and jerks, a little girl in the third pew leaned toward her mother and whispered, "If he gets loose, will he hurt us?"

Joke of the Day

A Sunday School teacher asked her little children, as they were on the way to church service,"And why is it necessary to be quiet in church?"

One bright little girl replied, "Because people are sleeping."

Six-year old Angie , and her four-year old brother, Joel , were sitting together in church. Joel giggled, sang and talked out loud.

Finally, his big sister had had enough. "You're not supposed to talk out loud in church."

"Why? Who's going to stop me?" Joel asked.

Angie pointed to the back of the church and said,

"See those two men standing by the door?

They're hushers."

Saving America

Saving the American Dream
Even though the President and Congress don’t seem to be working on it, there is an organization that has developed a plan to fix the debt, cut spending, and restore prosperity. It’s called the Heritage Foundation.

You can read and download the plan at the following link:

Saving the American Dream

Sounds like a good idea to fix the debt, cut spending, and restore prosperity. What could be better. Did you know that Congress is spending $4.1 billion a day more than it receives in revenue. As someone said, “Insanity!”

Tennessee Granddaddy Says:
Let’s quit worrying about political parties and just do what is right for the country. Let’s get out of debt, cut spending, and restore prosperity. I have to live on my budget, why doesn’t the US Government?

Jokes of the Day

One Sunday in a Midwest City, a young child was "acting up" during the morning worship hour. The parents did their best to maintain some sense of order in the pew but were losing the battle.

Finally, the father picked the little fellow up and walked sternly up the aisle on his way out. Just before reaching the safety of the foyer, the little one called loudly to the congregation,

"Pray for me! Pray for me!"

One particular four-year old prayed, "And forgive us our trash baskets as we forgive those who put trash in our baskets."

A Future President?

Senator Rubio from Florida
I watched the speech he gave at the Reagan Library on August 24, 2011. I was impressed! I have it below for you and I hope you will take the time to watch it, even though it lasts 23 minutes.

Senator Rubio emphasizes that we can be a country that is based on both prosperity and compassion. He seems to have the “how to” figured out. I predict that he will be President of the United States some time in the future.

True Story of School Prayer

From Kingston, Tennessee
The following paragraphs were read over the PA system at the football game at Roane County High School, Kingston, Tennessee by school Principal Jody McLoud, on September 1, 2000. I thought it was worth sharing on my blog. It’s another example off how our country is going in the wrong direction.
(It is true, I checked

It has always been the custom at Roane County High School football games to say a prayer and play the National Anthem to honor God and Country.

Due to a recent ruling by the Supreme Court, I am told that saying a prayer is a violation of Federal Case Law.

As I understand the law at this time, I can use this public facility to approve of sexual perversion and call it an alternate lifestyle, and if someone is offended, that's OK.

I can use it to condone sexual promiscuity by dispensing condoms and calling it safe sex. If someone is offended, that's OK.

I can even use this public facility to present the merits of killing an unborn baby as a viable means of birth control. If someone is offended, it's no problem.

I can designate a school day as earth day and involve students in activities to religiously worship and praise the goddess, mother earth, and call it ecology.

I can use literature, videos and presentations in the classroom that depict people with strong, traditional, Christian convictions as simple minded and ignorant and call it enlightenment.

However, if anyone uses this facility to honor God and ask Him to bless this event with safety and good sportsmanship, Federal Case Law is violated.

This appears to be inconsistent at best, and at worst, diabolical.

Apparently, we are to be tolerant of everything and anyone except God and His Commandments.

Nevertheless, as a school principal, I frequently ask staff and students to abide by rules that they do not necessarily agree. For me to do otherwise would be inconsistent at best, and at worst, hypocritical. I suffer from that affliction enough unintentionally. I certainly do not need to add an intentional transgression.

For this reason, I shall render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's and refrain from praying at this time. However, if you feel inspired to honor, praise and thank God, and ask Him in the name of Jesus to bless this event, please feel free to do so. As far as I know, that's not against the law — yet.
End of Read Comments.

AND ... one by one, the people in the stands bowed their heads, held hands with one another, and began to pray. They prayed in the stands. They prayed in the team huddles. They pray at the concession stand. And they prayed in the announcer's box. The only place they didn't pray was in the Supreme Court of the United State's of America — the seat of "justice" in the one nation under God.

Somehow, Kingston, Tennessee, remembered what so many have forgotten ... we are given the Freedom OF Religion, not the Freedom FROM Religion.

Have A Good, Restful, and Safe Weekend. I hope to see you here next Monday.

Joke of the Day

A blonde walks into a bank in New York City and asks for the loan officer. She says she’s going to Europe on a business trip for two weeks and she needs to borrow $5000. The bank officer says the bank will need some kind of security for the loan so the blonde hands over the keys to her cherry red Rolls Royce. The car is parked on the street in front of the bank; she has a title; and everything checks out.

The bank agrees to accept the car as collateral against the $5000 loan. An employee of the bank then drives the car to an underground garage and parks it there.

Two weeks later, the blonde returns and repays the $5000 debt and the interest, which only totaled out to $15.41. The loan officer says, "Miss, we are very happy to be of service to you, and this transaction has turned out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. We checked you out and found out you are a multi-millionaire.

Why would you would you bother borrowing $5000?"

The blonde responds......... "Where else in New York City can I park my car for two weeks for only $15.41 and expect to be there when i return?"

Joke of the Day

A man is walking through the zoo when he sees a little girl leaning into the lion's cage. Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the cuff of her jacket and tries to pull her inside to devour her right in front the little girl's screaming parents.

The man runs to the cage, hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch. Whimpering from the pain, the lion jumps back letting go of the girl and the man returns her to her terrified parents.

A reporter has seen the whole scene and says to the rescuer: 'Sir, this was the most gallant and brave thing I saw a man do in my whole life.'

'Why, it was nothing,' said the man. 'Really, the lion was behind bars and I knew God would protect me just as He did Daniel in the lions den long, long ago. I just saw this little kid in danger, and acted as I felt was right.'

'I noticed a bible in your pocket. Are you a Republican,' asked the journalist.

'Yes, and I'm a Christian on my way to a bible study,' the man replies.

'Well, I'll make sure this won't go unnoticed... I'm a journalist and tomorrow's paper will have this on the front page. The journalist leaves.

The following morning the man buys the paper to see if it indeed brings news of his actions, and reads on first page:

A Good Labor Day

We’ve enjoyed keeping our grandchildren, Kara and Zachary, the past few days. We’ve had fun together and have learned much by being with them. They are both very smart and creative.

I learned that Zachary can figure out just about anything when it comes to computer or video games, and he’s very creative with Lego building blocks. Here’s a couple of pictures that Grandmother took of Zachary.

Quote of the Day
Rejoice with your family in the beautiful land of life!

Joke of the Day

He asked his friend's little girl what she wanted to be when she grows up. *She said she wanted to be President of the United States. Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there.

So he asked her, "If you were President, what would be the first thing you would do?"*

She replied, "I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people."

Her parents proudly beamed. *"Wow...what a worthy goal,"

He told her, "But you don't have to wait until you're President to do that. Tell you what - you can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull weeds, and sweep my driveway, and I'll pay you $50. Then I'll take you over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house. *How about doing something wonderful like that?"

She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, "Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50?"

He said, "Welcome to the Republican Party."
